New plan…

Well, the exercise schedule is about to be thrown for a loop. First, I didn’t get to the gym on Friday b/c Drew wasn’t feeling well and I felt bad going without him and leaving him home sick. Second, we got to work late (again) today, due to our amazing inability to wake up in the morning. This got me thinking about how we’ve wanted to try exercising in the morning instead of after work, so we wouldn’t get home so late for dinner. Problem is, we can’t get up early to save our lives. After poking around the internet for a quick and easy solution, all I found was a whole lot of recommendations to stick to a regular sleeping schedule every single day, inculding weekends. A few people mentioned things like putting your alarm clock on the other side of the room, but I’ve done that and it only works for me for about a week until I start sleep walking to turn it off and going back to bed. I’ve never wanted to try a routine on the weekends, b/c I feel like that’s the one time I get to sleep in and relax. However, this past weekend kind of made me feel differently. I ended up lying around all morning on Sunday, and didn’t go to this play at my old college that I wanted to b/c I was too lazy and hadn’t even showered yet by 2pm. I suddenly realized I had wasted pretty much half the day doing nothing but sleeping and playing some video games, and as such missed out on an activity I really wanted to do. So maybe the weekend should be less about sleeping in, and more about making the most of the few hours there are in the day.

Where is this all going and what does it have to do with exercising? Well I decided (with Drew’s agreement) that we’ll try a new schedule of getting up early every morning, and only giving ourselves 1 extra hour sleeping in on the weekends. Here’s what we came up with:

Weekdays (except Friday, where we’re up till 11:30)

6:30-7:30: wake up and exercise
7:30-8:00: shower, get dressed
8:00-8:30: breakfast, brush teeth
8:30-9:00: warm up car and go to work
9:00-12:00: morning work
12:00-1:00: lunch
1:00-6:00: afternoon work
6:00-7:00: go home, cook dinner
7:00-8:00: eat dinner
8:00-10:00: chill out, do whatever
10:00-10:30: get ready for bed

Weekends (except going to bed at 10:30 Sunday):

7:30-8:30: wake up and exercise
8:30-9:00: shower, get dressed
9:00-10:00: breakfast, brush teeth
10:00-5:00: whatever plans for the day, fit lunch in somewhere
5:00-6:00: cook dinner
6:00-7:00: eat dinner
7:00-11:00: whatever plans for the evening
11:00-11:30: get ready for bed

Anyone else have any handy-dandy tips for waking up, working out, eating breakfast, and getting to work on time?

IT Has Happened…

Uh oh — something….frightening has happened at work. I, the new IT member, have been put in charge of the helpdesk phone. I am officially the lone twig stemming the tide, the only defense the department has to being completely inundated with pointless calls.

 I’m so excited :)

Another Miserable Monday…

Well, Monday has brought it’s usual cheer with clouds, rain, and work. Woke up late, hungry to the point of feeling sick (darn you Sunday night drinking!) with no time to eat breakfast, the shirt I wanted to wear still wet from the laundry, it’s raining and my umbrella is nowhere to be found. Even better, I get to work with 2 messages on my phone, which means insta-work before I even hook up my laptop. [edit for Drew's comment: I also forgot my access card at home, which lets me in the building and into our computer room. The plan was to get it when we went home for lunch, but then one of those phone calls I got in the morning resulted in hours of work and no time for lunch for me]

OK, to be honest it wasn’t as bad as all that. We still got to work on time despite waking up late, I brought breakfast with me to work (yogurt, OJ, and a cereal bar), I found my umbrella under the seat in my car, my shirt dried by the time I got to work, and the 2 messages on my phone turned out not to be so bad after all. I even motivated myself to clean up my desk, so now I have lots of space and a clean coffee mug filled with french vanilla coffee that smells better than it tastes. Wee!

We actually got stuff done this weekend, which is exciting. Got tuxes picked out for the wedding, cleaned house a bit, made a new tasty steak fajita dish, and I made some pretty cards to use for birthdays and valentines day. Next weekend is ceremony music and invitations, then the weekend after that is rings, florist, and rabbi. That’ll pretty much wrap up the big stuff for the wedding and maybe we’ll actually have a free weekend again.

Hope all your Mondays are going well….only 4 more days ’til Friday!!

Hello all!

Yay! I have a blog! I am now officially part of the masses and can call myself cool. I know I know, I was super cool before anyways ::modestly waves away hordes of gushing fans::

Anyways, this is my first blog ever and I’m not really sure what to do with it. Seems silly to make it like a diary…I mean the point of diaries is that no one else reads it, and this is obviously an open book. So who knows what I’ll be putting into this thing, but I hope anyone reading it is entertained. Shout out to my wonderful fiancee (who is NOT a bunny, but is fuzzy and muy caliente!) because I know he’ll be at least the one person I can count on to read my posts even when he’s sitting 20 feet away from me.

Here’s a bit about what I do, for those who don’t know, that I didn’t want to cram into the “about” page:

My official title at work is Multimedia Technical Specialist. This is probably the coolest title ever, and makes me sound much more important than I am. In actuality, I’m the bottom rung new member of the IT department at an architecture firm with absolutely no background in computers. I used to work in the company mailroom temporarily and the heads of the IT department decided they saw potential and didn’t want me to leave. Hence a crazy new title and not-so-crazy new job.

What I do: my job is pretty much split into two parts; the multimedia part and the support/helpdesk part. The latter is just what it sounds like…people call or email me or someone else in IT with computer troubles and I’m the first line of defense for the department. Basically this means I go see what the problem is, and if I can’t resolve it I pass it along to the next person up the ladder. This part of my job never fails to leave me either bored (which would be when I’ll write posts here) or scrambling insanely to catch up when 10 million calls/emails come in at once.

The other half of my job is the much more interesting part, and the part where I will probably be able to advance my career. The multimedia thing means that I’m in charge of setting up and troubleshooting our video conferencing, web conferencing, and other random technological devices. This is cool because it’s an area our company is looking to grow in, and previously has been under the direction of our administration department rather than the IT department (don’t ask me why….it’s odd). This part of my job I performed while in the mailroom position, and the responsibilities transferred to IT where they belong when I did. So what’s cool is that no one else in the department knows too much about this fun new technology, leaving it in my area of expertise. I’m special!

Well that’s about it for now…I have some work to get to and soon it’s lunch time! Weee!
