Less Sick

Yay, I’m much less sick than yesterday :) As it turned out, I think our old mercury thermometer is broken, since it never goes back down after shaking it. So we bought a new crazy digital thermometer and it sucked b/c the results would range a whole degree each time we tested. And since humans have like a 6 degree livable body temperature range (that’s not a fact, just an estimate), that’s not a lot of help. So we used Drew’s parents good old reliable mercury thermometer and found out that my temperature definitely was a bit on the fever side, 100.7 degrees. Blah, no wonder I was miserable! But on the up side, I then took some tylenol and viola! no more fever this morning: a perfect 98.6 on the thermometer. So just a little sore throat which is fading, and I think I’ll be completely better tomorrow. Weee! ::kyonpy kyonpy::

In other news, we found out that Drew is cold-blooded, with a consistent temperature of about 97.5 degrees. Brrr!

Sick…

Blah I know I deserve this but it still sucks. I called out sick to work Friday when I probably could have made it in but I was just a little under the weather. So of course, Sunday night I actually start to feel really sick and now I’m stuck at work while my throat hurts, my neck aches, and I’m light-headed. Oh and I think I have a fever but I’m not sure since Drew and I couldn’t figure out how to get the thermometer to work right. Grrrr I know this is punishment for my laziness.

And time is going by sooooo slowly today. I swear it’s been between 3:30 and 3:40 for at least an hour; am I stuck in some kind of wormhole? I hope not…it’s only Monday!!

IT Has Happened…

Uh oh — something….frightening has happened at work. I, the new IT member, have been put in charge of the helpdesk phone. I am officially the lone twig stemming the tide, the only defense the department has to being completely inundated with pointless calls.

 I’m so excited :)

BANZAI!

Woohoo, we went to Banzai last night for dinner with friends and it was tasty as always. Our chef Frankie was great, although a little overzealous with his zucchini toss (causing one of our friends to cower in fear). Lots of alcohol…especially the Volcanoes. For those who don’t know, the Volcano is Banzai’s specialty drink. For $18.00, you get like 5 kinds of rum and a few fruit juices poured into a ginormous bowl with lots of fruit and a flaming shot of 151 in the middle (warning, don’t try to stick your straw in the shot and drink the flame…it hurts…). Anyways it’s the awesomest drink in the world and worth the price. Two of those and about 3 other fun drinks rounded out the night and all was happy.

I Love Pasta

This is a random post and says nothing exceptionally interesting…just warning you now.

I love pasta. We made penne w/ tomato cream sauce last night and now I’m thinking about how much I want some right now. But then we went to a pizza place for lunch (and got sandwiches…stupid healthy eating…) and I was thinking how weird it was that they didn’t have baked ziti on the menu because pizza places usually do. And I love ziti more than any other pasta dish. Mmmmm cheese and sauce and pasta…does it get any better? Particularly with a yummy dessert like tiramisu. Great now I’m hungry for dessert too. But since the plan for dinner tonight is enchiladas, I’m thinking pasta and dessert will have to wait. Work sucks so much when I’m thinking about food, even though we just got back from lunch not even a half hour ago!

Anyways kids, now for the interactive portion of today’s post: what are your favorite foods and what foods drive you crazy during the day at work/school/whatever?

Another Miserable Monday…

Well, Monday has brought it’s usual cheer with clouds, rain, and work. Woke up late, hungry to the point of feeling sick (darn you Sunday night drinking!) with no time to eat breakfast, the shirt I wanted to wear still wet from the laundry, it’s raining and my umbrella is nowhere to be found. Even better, I get to work with 2 messages on my phone, which means insta-work before I even hook up my laptop. [edit for Drew’s comment: I also forgot my access card at home, which lets me in the building and into our computer room. The plan was to get it when we went home for lunch, but then one of those phone calls I got in the morning resulted in hours of work and no time for lunch for me]

OK, to be honest it wasn’t as bad as all that. We still got to work on time despite waking up late, I brought breakfast with me to work (yogurt, OJ, and a cereal bar), I found my umbrella under the seat in my car, my shirt dried by the time I got to work, and the 2 messages on my phone turned out not to be so bad after all. I even motivated myself to clean up my desk, so now I have lots of space and a clean coffee mug filled with french vanilla coffee that smells better than it tastes. Wee!

We actually got stuff done this weekend, which is exciting. Got tuxes picked out for the wedding, cleaned house a bit, made a new tasty steak fajita dish, and I made some pretty cards to use for birthdays and valentines day. Next weekend is ceremony music and invitations, then the weekend after that is rings, florist, and rabbi. That’ll pretty much wrap up the big stuff for the wedding and maybe we’ll actually have a free weekend again.

Hope all your Mondays are going well….only 4 more days ’til Friday!!

Hello all!

Yay! I have a blog! I am now officially part of the masses and can call myself cool. I know I know, I was super cool before anyways ::modestly waves away hordes of gushing fans::

Anyways, this is my first blog ever and I’m not really sure what to do with it. Seems silly to make it like a diary…I mean the point of diaries is that no one else reads it, and this is obviously an open book. So who knows what I’ll be putting into this thing, but I hope anyone reading it is entertained. Shout out to my wonderful fiancee (who is NOT a bunny, but is fuzzy and muy caliente!) because I know he’ll be at least the one person I can count on to read my posts even when he’s sitting 20 feet away from me.

Here’s a bit about what I do, for those who don’t know, that I didn’t want to cram into the “about” page:

My official title at work is Multimedia Technical Specialist. This is probably the coolest title ever, and makes me sound much more important than I am. In actuality, I’m the bottom rung new member of the IT department at an architecture firm with absolutely no background in computers. I used to work in the company mailroom temporarily and the heads of the IT department decided they saw potential and didn’t want me to leave. Hence a crazy new title and not-so-crazy new job.

What I do: my job is pretty much split into two parts; the multimedia part and the support/helpdesk part. The latter is just what it sounds like…people call or email me or someone else in IT with computer troubles and I’m the first line of defense for the department. Basically this means I go see what the problem is, and if I can’t resolve it I pass it along to the next person up the ladder. This part of my job never fails to leave me either bored (which would be when I’ll write posts here) or scrambling insanely to catch up when 10 million calls/emails come in at once.

The other half of my job is the much more interesting part, and the part where I will probably be able to advance my career. The multimedia thing means that I’m in charge of setting up and troubleshooting our video conferencing, web conferencing, and other random technological devices. This is cool because it’s an area our company is looking to grow in, and previously has been under the direction of our administration department rather than the IT department (don’t ask me why….it’s odd). This part of my job I performed while in the mailroom position, and the responsibilities transferred to IT where they belong when I did. So what’s cool is that no one else in the department knows too much about this fun new technology, leaving it in my area of expertise. I’m special!

Well that’s about it for now…I have some work to get to and soon it’s lunch time! Weee!
